I became a licensed marriage and family therapist the first year New York State awarded it. Prior to that moment, I had met the requirements of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists for Clinical Membership and later to be an approved supervisor of marriage and family therapists in training. These credentials were awarded after I had completed my Doctorate in Counselor Education from The Pennsylvania State University in 1968. While I am no longer credentialed as an approved supervisor, I did devote 30 years to teaching counseling to graduate students at SUNY Brockport from which I retired as Professor Emeritus. Along the way, I managed to co-author five books in group counseling and therapy and have written numerous articles in the field of counseling.
